Call for Participation

The Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) and Siam University are pleased to invite university leaders/staff, student representatives, policy makers, researchers, as well as business and media representatives from  ASEM countries to the 3rd Asia-Europe Education Workshop, happening on 25-26 September 2013 in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

The goal of the 3rd Asia-Europe Education Workshop is to examine university-business-stakeholder cooperation in terms of its contributions to the academic, and more importantly, to the Societal Excellence of university education.

It will be organized around the following subtopics:

-          Universities’ role in building social cohesion

-          How can university education best contribute to active citizenship and community    engagement? How is this implemented in theory (missions) and practice?

-          A tri-partite partnership for sustainable societies: universities, businesses and communities

-          Measuring beyond the academic yardstick: the Societal Excellence of education

The results of this Workshop will directly feed into the biennial ASEM Rectors’ Conference (ARC) (2014) and the Asia-Europe Meeting of Ministers for Education (2015).

As such, the Asia-Europe Education Workshop is an integral part of the ASEM Education Process. The concept and programme of the 3rd Asia-Europe Education Workshop may be downloaded from the ASEF website.

Criteria for Selection:

-          Knowledge and interest in the (sub-)topics of the Workshop

-          Citizenship (applications from citizens of ASEM countries)

-          Language proficiency (English is the official language of the Workshop)

-          Response to the motivation section of the online application form

-          Asia-Europe balance

-          Gender balance

The organisers will provide travel subsidies (maximum of EUR 400 for participants travelling from Asia, EUR 700 from Australia, and EUR 1,000 for those travelling from Europe, Russia, and New Zealand) as well as accommodation for three nights in Chiang Mai, Thailand, during the Workshop.
