In the upcoming April, National University of Laos (NUOL) will host an international event called “INOWASIA Workshop on Water Resources Management and Challenges in South East Asia” on 04th April 2023 at the conference room of Confucius Institutes.
The workshop is organized as a part of the 3rd Biannual Steering Committee Meeting of INOWASIA Erasmus+ project which will be held in the Lao PDR this year. Many related stakeholders of national and international levels and Higher Education Institutes in Southeast Asia are invited to participate to the event. The workshop has been designed to provide an overview about the water integrated managements covering (1) Water resource management, (2) Domestic wastewater management, (3) Water supply, (4) Soil health and biodiversity, Water quality, Natural Based Solution (NBS) for wastewater management.
The collaborative framework of Erasmus+ project INOWASIA contributes to improve not only the content of teaching, but also the transformation of traditional teaching method to modern competence based teaching, e.g. the integration of Problem Based Learning (PBL), and facilities to improve the quality of teaching-learning and R&D services, e.g. the Water-Oriented Living Labs (WOLLs). More importantly, the university-industry collaboration is one of core elements in the Erasmus+ CBHE projects to ensure the sustainability of the education programs after the end of projects through the Academic and Professional Committee (APC) from INOWASIA.
12 student representatives from the National University of Laos who participated in the “2023 UNESCO-UNITWIN Digital and Leadership Local Training” held on May and August 2023 at National University of Laos, have been selected to participate in the 2023 UNESCO UNITWIN Advanced Workshop and Hackathon, held during 27 November – 1 December 2023 at Sookmyung Women’s University. Korea. The main objective of the event is to cultivate interest and self-assurance in the relevant field via advanced education in both leadership and digital entrepreneurship.
From 21-24 November, 2023, the Faculty of Agriculture of the National University of Laos (NUOL) organizes an international technical conference under the topic "Sustainable Animal Agriculture for Developing Countries" at the Lao Prasa Hotel, Vientiane Capital by Co-chairing Assoc. Prof. Dr. Oudom Phone Khampeng, Rector of the National University of Laos, Professor Dr. Chun Bu Lieng, senior research advisor of the Project of Sustainable Animal Agriculture for Developing Countries with Assoc. Prof. Vanaphone Buthana, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture with the sponsors of the project, the invited guests and 182 researchers from the National University of Laos , Suphanuvong University, Savannakhet University, Champasak University and foreign researchers from 24 countries participating.
The International technical conference under the topic: "Sustainable Animal Agriculture for Developing Countries" helds for the 9th time, the 1st time was held in China, 2007. the SAADC project was established as a platform for researchers, agricultural policy makers, livestock producers and students to meet and exchange knowledge about sustainable animal production for developing countries. The 1st SAADC conference was successfully held in Kunming, China in 2007. Then the conference was held every two years in different countries (Malaysia, China, Thailand, Indonesia and Nepal). The SAADC conference is a technical exchange platform that international researchers are interested in. Each time there were participants from many continents such as Asia, Australia, Africa, America and Europe. The conference aims to develop young researchers from developing countries by providing partial scholarships to support the upgrading and professional development of young scientists from developing countries to participate in the conference and service of the "Editorial Team within SAADC". Composed of experienced academics and researchers from different countries, for young researchers to collaborate and publish their research results together in internationally renowned journals.
For the 9th SAADC 2023 conference which the Faculty of Agriculture hosts under the topic "Sustainable Animal Agriculture for Developing Countries 2023" there are 182 researchers participating from 24 countries. Domestic and international researchers have submitted topics to present a total of 192 topics. There are 133 oral presentation topics and 59 poster presentations. There are total of 9 fields such as: animal feed and technology, improvement of animal breeds, breeding animals, animal health and veterinary medicine, animal husbandry management, animal husbandry and environment, promotion of animal husbandry, transfer of animal husbandry techniques and one health and sustainability of animal husbandry. In which there were Lao researchers present 19 topics.
In the conference, certificates of commendation and certificates of honor were given to the assistants the project by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Oudom Phone Khampheng. In the conference also listened to the presentation topic "The Current Animal Husbandry System in the Lao PDR" which was presented by Dr. Phanthavong Vongsamphan, Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Department, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. Also listened to presentations on various important topics from American, Australian and Chinese experts. The conference lasted for 4 days, in which there are 3 days presentations and the 1 day for a study tour about the livestock of the farmers and tourist attractions in the Vientiane.
