History
The Information Technology Center, also known as the IT Center, was established in December 2002 as a separate entity from the Administration and Planning Department, which is currently under the Office of the President's cabinet. It serves as the hub for ICT (Information and Communication Technology), teaching, and learning media at the National University of Laos (NUOL), aiming to advance information and technology on both regional and international levels.
Since its inception, the IT Center has been actively involved in ICT-related tasks, which encompass infrastructure development, network management, software development, and various service provisions. These activities have been organized into two distinct phases as follows:
Phase 1 (2002-2009)
This phase marks the inception of the center, with a staff of 13 employees under the management of Dr. Bounthong Vongxaiya and Mr. Visin Moungsin. It is divided into two departments: the Network Development Section and the Information and Standards Section.
Simultaneously, it represents the commencement of the development and expansion of the ICT network system across all university campuses. This expansion aims to facilitate communication in various fields by connecting them .
The IT Center secured funding from the SIDA-Sarec project of Sweden, serving as the primary source for the University's ICT system development. The project's objective is to train employees in various ICT areas such as Backbone, Interactive-Space, Voice Over IP, NUOL-Internet Application Services, and more, equipping them to effectively manage the university's ICT system. Additionally, the IT Center has collaborated with various ministries, organizations, and companies in the country to promote ICT development, including the Prime Minister's Office (STEA ) and the Agriculture-Forestry Research Center (NAFRI).
Phase 2 (2009-present)
In the second phase, the IT center has 15 employees under the management of Mr. Aphisith THEBPHAVONGSA, Mrs. Malaiphone SOULIYAVONG and Mr. Khamsaon JOUMLAMANY, the IT center has a total of 3 Sections : the Personnel Affairs- Services Section , the software development section and the network and system management Section . Mission
- The Information Technology Center (ICT ) represents the NOUL's president in the field of ICT work, focusing on the development of technology, teaching, and learning media for NUOL to advance information and technology at regional and international levels.
- It aims to develop human resources in the fields of computer science and information technology, both within and outside the university, through training.
- The center is responsible for developing, installing, maintaining, and managing the information technology network within the National University. It also strives to connect the educational information network and scientific research of the National University with regional and international networks. Additionally, it develops application software to support educational administration
- The ICT Center conducts scientific research in computer science and information technology.
- It provides academic services related to the use of computer science and information technology.
